Killing Yama

Tiki Tucking

"Tucking" Yama's face into a tight space will cause him to die immediately upon entering his 2nd stage, which can save time and simplify the fight. You can also tuck his face against a single tile with a "turnaround tiki tuck":

1st clip: standard tuck between the tiki and another tile
2nd clip: face a wall, turn around and quickly throw the face

Reaching Yama

2 Ropes

The simplest way to get onto his shoulder is by using 2 ropes

1st clip: rope right above the tile, jump right onto the shoulder
2nd clip: rope 1 tile further away, which is safer from spikeballs and magmars. you can use the chain to get onto the shoulder

1 Rope

Note: any of the 0 rope strategies below can also be used with 1 rope; it can be easier to throw a rope at the skull instead of whipping

You can place a rope from the terrain near the top corner of the arena, as a way to get up to the chains and onto Yama's shoulder quickly.

clip 1: get all the way across quickly, between skull attacks. you can hide out from the skull under yama's face before picking it up
clip 2: whip a skull from one of the chains (e.g. for bad spikeball cycles or a lot of enemies or a bad rope placement)

An alternative method is to rope up from the bottom, get Yama stuck in the fist slam state (see section below), and jump off of his fist onto his shoulder. A benefit of this strategy is that Yama will not attack with falling skulls while he's stuck in this state, so you are free to go to the exit while waiting for him to die.

0 Ropes

Use the chains at the top of the arena to reach yama's shoulder. You will not have time to make it all the way there between skull attacks, so will need to use your whip or rope to break the skulls.

Watch yama's fist for timing cues. Note that if you whip any vampires on the ceiling you may need to be careful not to pick them up from Yama's shoulder as they fall

Never ending fist slam

We don't fully understand why this happens yet but one consistent setup to enter this state is included above in the 1 rope section

Note that this perpetual fist slam state is only preserved as long as:

  • neither fist is destroyed (so avoid knocking the fist on top of the throne)
  • neither fist is picked up and placed down again

Also note that if you enter one side of the throne and pick up the fist on the other side, the behavior is a bit different
