Olmec Low% Strategies

2 Bomb Olmec

2 Bomb Olmec is a strategy using a 1 bomb opening and 1 bomb ending. Either one can be used for fights using only 1 bomb. Average completion time is 47 seconds IGT.

1 bomb opening:

  1. Wait roughly half a second, then throw 1 bomb upwards towards Olmec.
    • It can land in the gap with Olmec or beside the gap, either one works.
  2. Run towards Olmec, grab the Hawkman and throw him to the left, preferably far enough that he goes offscreen.
    • Sometimes the bomb can land on the Hawkman, preventing you from picking him up easily. Grab him by his left edge to avoid picking up the bomb.
  3. Stand roughly on the tile adjacent to Olmec to trigger his first stomp, then run to the left or right.
    • The positioning isn't precise, as Olmec won't stomp when going left until he has moved roughly 2 tiles.

1 bomb ending:

  1. When there are 3 layers left, walk under Olmec and place a bomb under Olmec's left side.
  2. Have Olmec jump over you for the last stomp then run to the right and throw a rope to escape.

For the 1 bomb opening, depending on the terrain left by the explosion, Olmec usually shifts his position to the left slightly. This prevents most enemies from falling onto you, but also results in Olmec slightly dragging you down when stomping. You should make sure you are moving into the wall to avoid being dragged into the ground.

Gaps can cause Olmec's position to shift slightly left or right, eventually causing a 4 wide stomp or crushing you. Counterplay typically involves having Olmec jumping out of the pit to the left, then standing slightly away from the right wall to align him back into the pit.

3 Bomb Olmec

3 Bomb Olmec is a variant of 2 Bomb Olmec using a 2 bomb opening to save a stomp. Average completion time is 45 seconds IGT. Discovered by HamburgerMan.

  • Wait roughly half a second, then throw 2 bombs upwards towards Olmec. Ideally both should land in the gap with Olmec, but if one bomb lands beside the hole it can be dropped under Olmec from a precise position to recover.

4 Bomb Olmec

4 Bomb Olmec is a precise and difficult strategy. This strategy is also ropeless. Average completion time is 37 seconds IGT. Discovered by SoulAro with improvements from Groomp.

Steps:

  1. Run towards Olmec and grab the Hawkman, immediately place a bomb, then throw the Hawkman to the left, preferably far enough that he goes offscreen.
  2. Grab the bomb then walk under Olmec as he jumps and place the bomb in the left corner.
    • The bomb can sometimes take longer to settle into the corner, resulting in an extra tile being destroyed. Make sure to place bomb as close to the corner as you can to avoid this.
  3. Crouch into position 2 tiles away from Olmec, then immediately fliphang over the edge created by the explosion and neutral throw a bomb before Olmec jumps. Then wait to trigger a stomp.
    • Instead of waiting for Olmec to stomp while hanging on the ledge, the player can jump back up and make Olmec stomp further to the left. This makes last bomb more consistent since Olmec is further away from the pit.
  4. Jump onto Olmec and place a bomb centered to the 4 wide pit.
    • Olmec's position can vary here, and can be a poor visual reference for where to place the bomb.
  5. Item switch to a bomb, have Olmec jump left and trigger a stomp, then jump to the right of the pit, triggering the bomb as you go over the pit.
  6. Quickly teeter on the edge for Olmec's last stomp, letting the bomb drop out of your hands, then leave to the exit.
    • Teetering is not an indication that you are far enough left to align Olmec into the pit, sometimes nudging a bit further is necessary.
    • If you are uncertain if you started teetering quickly enough, the bomb can be dropped into the pit as a somewhat inconsistent backup.
    • Alternatively you can fliphang to drop the bomb into the pit, in which case Olmec should be repositioned as far to left as possible in step 5, so as to avoid having the bomb bounce off Olmec.

Hanging on the ledge to lineup Olmec's final stomp is an option, however this lineup is not consistent.
